Les Perrieres is an esteemed Premier Cru climat in Puligny-Montrachet, with Combettes and Referts situated to its northeast. This 4.5-hectare vineyard is located at the lower end of the Côte d'Or slope, with Clos de la Mouchère taking up 3.9 hectares of the western portion of the site, before it becomes Clavaillon. Its stony soils consist of a thinner topsoil than the upper slopes, with a mix of marl and limestone-clay. ‘Perrières’ means ‘stones,’ and the name refers both to its soils, and the site’s proximity to an old limestone quarry. Today, the Carillon plot has 42-year-old vines covering a surface area of 0.61 hectares.

Understanding Louis Carillon, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Perrieres, Burgundy
Produced from sustainably grown Chardonnay grapes, Louis Carillon Puligny-Montrachet Perrieres was fermented and aged in oak barrels with 20% new wood for one year, before being racked into stainless steel for a further six months. It is lightly filtered before bottling. The classic bouquet offers crisp green orchard fruit, apricot lemon, pastry cream and roasted almond. The wine is relatively full-bodied, yet elegant and silken, with a firm mineral core balanced by lively acidity and sappy fruit flavours. According to William Kelley of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate this wine is ‘seamless and complete,’ and ‘the most layered and concentrated wine in the range.’
