The Les Combettes vineyard is located close to the border of Puligny-Montrachet with Meursault. The soils here are a combination of chalk and clay, with few stones in contrast to the neighbouring Chassagne-Montrachet to the east. Its wines bridge the gap in style between Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault, wherein the minerality of the former meet the rounder style typical of the latter. Notably, the high amounts of clay in Les Combettes’ soil mean that even in hotter vintages, the vines deliver well. This is a vital and noteworthy characteristic of these Burgundian wines, as climate changes increasingly impacts the region.

Understanding Francois Carillon, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Combettes, Burgundy
Domaine François Carillon Puligny Montrachet Combettes is a 100% Chardonnay, from vines planted in 1995 in one the appellation’s finest Premier Crus. The grapes are manually harvested, sorted and fermented in 25% new oak for 12 months, followed by six months in stainless steel vats. The wine has a long mouthfeel, revealing notes of apple, peach and vanilla, imparted by the oak maturation. At 14% ABV, it is one of the wines with the highest alcohol content produced by Carillon.
