An introduction to Dugat-Py, Pommard, La Levriere Tres Vieilles Vignes, Burgundy
Pommard is a red wine appellation located in the Côte de Beaune. It is planted with Pinot Noir and encompasses Village and Premier Cru level wines. Pommard received its appellation status in 1936. The Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py Gevrey Pommard Levrieres Vieilles Vignes is a medium to full-bodied Village blend of fruit from two parcels of old vines. It boasts deep layers of concentrated black and red fruit with hints of dried flower, smoky earth and espresso notes, lifted by vibrant acidity and framed by subtle, velvety tannins. Characteristic of Domaine Dugat-Py wines, the Pommard Levrieres Vieilles Vignes can be appreciated young but is best after cellaring. The domaine produces between 2,000 to 2,700 bottles annually.

Understanding Dugat-Py, Pommard, La Levriere Tres Vieilles Vignes, Burgundy
Pommard comprises a range of soils from ancient alluvium to clay-limestone and marls. Vineyards here have a south or east exposure for full and steady grape ripening and altitudes of 250 to 330 metres ensure good acid retention for balanced wines. Crafted from vines planted in the 1940s and 1950s, this Pinot Noir is farmed organically and vinified with minimal intervention allowing for full terroir expression. In the winery, ambient yeasts promote the individuality of each vintage and maturation in 80% new oak for 16 to 18 months adds structure and depth, promoting its ageing potential. Burghound has called Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py Pommard Levrieres Vieilles Vignes ‘a high-quality Villages’.
