Domaine de Montille, Pommard Premier Cru, Les Pezerolles, Burgundy

Domaine de Montille, Pommard Premier Cru, Les Pezerolles, Burgundy
An introduction to Domaine de Montille, Pommard Premier Cru, Les Pezerolles, Burgundy
The Premier Cru Les Pezerolles cuvée by Domaine de Montille is sourced from a 1.35 hectare parcel of Pinot Noir vines planted in the Premier Cru designated Les Pezerolles vineyard, at the very northern end of the Pommard commune. The Domaine de Montille holdings lie at the very heart of the climat. The wine is typical of this very atypical appellation; light-bodied, highly perfumed and with a svelte tannic profile. However, the more expressive wines of Les Pezerolles can be more akin to those of Volnay rather than the rest of Pommard.

Understanding Domaine de Montille, Pommard Premier Cru, Les Pezerolles, Burgundy
The old vines that comprise the Domaine de Montille Premier Cru Les Grands Epenots cuvée are farmed sustainably and in accordance with biodynamic principles, and many of the vineyard and cellar operations are timed to coincide with the cycles of the lunar calendar. The grapes are hand-harvested and partially destemmed into wooden fermenters (though a portion of stems are retained for freshness and to promote terroir expression), where fermentation occurs with indigenous yeast. Maturation is conducted for approximately 18 months in French oak barrels and demi-muids prior to bottling with non-sterile filtration. This is a fragrant and almost extravagant example of Les Pezerolles, showing great hedonic appeal with its bright fruit core and fine-grained tannic structure.
