An introduction to Perrot-Minot, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru, La Richemone Vieilles Vignes, Burgundy

La Richemone Nuits-Saint-Georges comes from the most southernly part of the plot which was planted in 1902. Soils in La Richemone are composed of the typical limestone for Burgundy vineyards, in this instance, a thin layer of gravelly soil over a harder sub-soil, resulting in lower levels of nutrients and good natural drainage. This in turn forces the vines to develop deeper roots to seek out hydration and nutrition. This contact between root and rock is sometimes seen as the reason for minerality in the La Richemone wines, which have more elegance than is usually associated with this part of the Côte de Nuits. They tend to display spice, herbs and wild black fruits notes.

Understanding Perrot-Minot, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru, La Richemone Vieilles Vignes, Burgundy

Domaine Perrot-Minot La Richemone Vieilles Vignes Premier Cru is produced from 100% Pinot Noir. The La Richemone plot has a rare soil characteristic, made up of both gravel that ensures perfect drainage and deep rooting, and a clay-limestone complex. This richness of the soil results in round wines with great freshness and silky tannins. The other part of the climat has a more stony soil, giving the wine great minerality and aromatic tension. La Richemone Nuits-Saint-Georges comes from the most southern part of the plot, which was planted in 1902. This cuvée has been widely praised for its silkiness, elegance and finesse, and for its excellent aging potential. The average annual production is around 3,000 bottles.
