Planted only with Pinot Noir, La Richemone is a Premier Cru climat within the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation of the Cote d'Or. Domaine Perrot-Minot’s La Richemone ‘Ultra Cuvée’ retains the ‘ultra’ in the name in recognition of its ancient vines, planted in 1902. The fruit for this wine comes from a tiny 0.7 ha parcel within a 2 ha plot from the most southerly part of the climat, on a combination of gravel and clay-limestone soils. These are wines of huge concentration, great freshness, and tension with silky tannins.

Understanding Perrot Minot, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru, La Richemone Cuvee Ultra Vignes Centenaires, Burgundy
The organically farmed fruit is harvested entirely by hand to ensure that any under-ripe grapes are eliminated. This cuvee uses 60% whole bunch fruit in the fermentation, with just a gentle pump over and using only free-run juice. The élevage of up to 18 months in oak barrels (only 20% new oak) without fining or filtering prior to bottling produces wines that are deeply concentrated and boldly tannic with an earthy minerality and tangy acidity. Phenomenally long, these wines are approachable in youth but will reward extended cellaring of 10-20+ years. Vintages of this critically acclaimed wine regularly achieve over 95-points from major publications. For example, Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy) said of the 2019 vintage: ‘This is just such a magically complete wine, which has endless years ahead of it’.
