Louis Latour, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Rouge, Burgundy
An introduction to Louis Latour, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Rouge, Burgundy
Nuits-Saint-Georges, after which the Côte de Nuits sub-zone is named, is a winemaking hub in eastern France’s Burgundy region. The majority of wine production, about 97%, is focused on Pinot Noir with small quantities produced from Chardonnay. The vineyards around Nuit-Saint-Georges cover Regional, Village and highly-esteemed Premier Cru wines. The appellation was created in 1936. Wines from this area have been admired for centuries by locals and royalty alike. Louis XIV, reigning at the close of the 17th century, received a doctor’s advice to drink a glass of Nuit-Saint-Georges daily for his health. Nuit-Saint-Georges wine was also carried in one of NASA’s Apollo missions and has a lunar crater named after it. The Village-level Domaine Louis Latour Nuits Saint Georges Rouge displays intense spicy black cherry, mocha, nutmeg and hints of coffee in a generous, fresh palate closing with soft tannins and a powerful finish. This red wine is suitable for five to seven years of laying down.

Understanding Louis Latour, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Rouge, Burgundy
The domaine practices sustainable viticulture on its Pinot Noir vines in Nuits-Saint-Georges. The vines are nourished by clay-limestone soils for high-quality grapes. Fruit is carefully harvested by hand in a highly-selective process that ensures only the finest grapes are vinified. In the winery, this Premier Cru sees traditional fermentation in open oak vats followed by complete malolactic fermentation for a creamy, soft mouthfeel. It is aged in 20% new, medium-toasted oak barrels from the Louis Latour in-house cooperage for ten to 12 months to allow components to unfurl for greater depth and complexity.
