Domaine de Montille, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Aux Saints-Juliens, Burgundy
An introduction to Domaine de Montille, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Aux Saints-Juliens, Burgundy
The Village-level Nuits-Saint-Georges cuvée by Domaine de Montille comes from a 0.58 hectare plot of Pinot Noir vines planted in the Village classified Aux Saint Juliens climat, situated just to the north of the town of Nuits-Saint-Georges. The vineyards of the commune to the north of the town often show some of the aromatic character of neighbouring Vosne-Romanée, and this Village cuvée by Domaine de Montille offers a bouquet of wild strawberries, damsons and baking spices, with grippy tannins and persistent finish.

Understanding Domaine de Montille, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Aux Saints-Juliens, Burgundy
The Domaine de Montille holdings in the Aux Saint Juliens vineyard are farmed sustainably and in accordance with biodynamic principles, with much of the work in both the vineyard an cellar conducted in accordance with the lunar cycle. The grapes are hand-picked and mostly destemmed prior to alcoholic fermentation in open-top fermenters (though some whole bunches are included to add aromatic complexity). Extraction is managed by a daily pigeage routine. After gentle pressing, the wine is matured in mostly neutral French oak barrels prior to bottling with a non-sterile filtration. This is a fine example of Village-level Burgundy, offering the aromatic complexity of Vosne-Romanee with some of the fruit density so typical of Nuits-Saint-Georges.
