Alain Hudelot-Noellat, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru, Aux Murgers, Burgundy
An introduction to Alain Hudelot-Noellat, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru, Aux Murgers, Burgundy
Aux Murgers is a Premier Cru site found in Nuits-Saint-Georges in the iconic eastern French wine region of Burgundy. The vineyard’s deep, predominantly rocky, limestone soil offers excellent drainage conditions for vine cultivation. This results in limited water intake for vines leading to small, concentrated grapes that are ideal for the making of high-quality focused wines. Made from its signature old vines, Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Nuits Saint Georges Murgers Premier Cru offers pure, spicy red fruit, truffle and game notes in a quintessential expression of Pinot Noir that unfurls after several years of ageing.

Understanding Alain Hudelot-Noellat, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru, Aux Murgers, Burgundy
The mid-slope, south and east-facing Aux Murgers has pebbly limestone soils with good drainage. This makes them the ideal environment for Pinot Noir, the only grape variety planted in this Premier Cru site. Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noëllat tends just over two-thirds of a hectare. The name ‘Murgers’ owes its origin to the dry-stone walls of yesteryear built across Burgundy’s vineyards from stones cleared off vineland. The fruit for the domaine’s Nuits-Saint-Georges Murgers Premier Cru is only the highest quality, hailing from 40-year-old vines. Clusters are 80% destemmed for meticulous tannic balance and fermented with ambient yeast. The wine maturates for 16 months in 30% new oak, which adds depth, texture and complexity. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate has said that this Murgers Burgundy has ‘a dramatic but nicely balanced’ style.
