An introduction to Perrot-Minot, Morey-Saint-Denis, En la Rue de Vergy Rouge, Burgundy
The Morey-Saint-Denis appellation is situated between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny in the Côte de Nuits. Both red and white wines are produced in Morey-Saint-Denis, although Pinot Noir is the dominant grape variety. The Perrot-Minot Morey-Saint-Denis La Rue de Vergy comes from a 1.4 ha strip, planted with 40-year-old vines, situated high on the slope just above the illustrious Grand Cru of Clos de Tart. The poor, rocky soils have high mineral content which is reflected in the wines’s stony earthy minerality.

Understanding Perrot-Minot, Morey-Saint-Denis, En la Rue de Vergy Rouge, Burgundy
The organically farmed fruit that goes into this wine is hand-harvested to ensure that any under-ripe grapes are removed. This cuvee uses a proportion of whole bunch fruit in the fermentation, with gentle pump overs and only free run juice. The wine spends up to 18 months in barrel with a proportion of new oak (20%) without fining or filtering prior to bottling. The resulting wine is structured, with supple tannins and dark, spicy fruit, with a firm spine of saline acidity that promotes ageing. Although the wine is usually ready to be drunk a few years after harvest, it has a long drinking window of over ten years.
