An introduction to Perrot-Minot, Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru, La Riotte Vieilles Vignes, Burgundy
La Riotte is one of 20 Premier Cru climats within the appellation of Morey-Saint-Denis in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. Like many in this appellation, the vineyard is planted entirely with Pinot Noir. Perrot-Minot’s Morey-Saint-Denis La Riotte is produced from a small 0.5 ha plot of 55-year-old vines, situated on the opposite side of the village from La Rue de Vergy. The soils here are stony marl which allow for deep rooting, producing wines that are spicy yet delicate with Perrot-Minot’s trademark elegance. Usually ready to open after five years, these wines will reward extended cellaring for 10-15+ years.

Understanding Perrot-Minot, Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru, La Riotte Vieilles Vignes, Burgundy
This organically farmed Pinot Noir is harvested entirely by hand to ensure that all under-ripe grapes are eliminated. Using a proportion of whole bunch fruit in the fermentation, with subtle extraction using pump-overs and only the free-run juice, the wine then spends up to 18 months ageing in oak barrels. The reduced proportion of new oak (30%) results in a wine that retains clarity and precision, expressing both aromatic intensity and peppery spice. The limited production of Domaine Perrot-Minot Morey-Saint-Denis ‘La Riotte’ Premier Cru usually totals less than 2,500 bottles per vintage.
