Domaine Ponsot, Morey-Saint-Denis, Cuvee des Grives, Burgundy
An introduction to Domaine Ponsot, Morey-Saint-Denis, Cuvee des Grives, Burgundy
The Village level Domaine Ponsot Cuvée des Grives comes from a small 0.35 hectare plot of Pinot Noir planted on the very upper slopes of the Morey-Saint-Denis hillside, just above the famous Premier Cru vineyard of Mont Luisants. The high altitude of the vines (over 350 metres) produces a wine of great finesse, and the Cuvée des Grives shows a characteristically floral bouquet, with notes of sous-bois and crunchy red fruits on the palate.

Understanding Domaine Ponsot, Morey-Saint-Denis, Cuvee des Grives, Burgundy
Replanted in 2002, the average age of the vines is twenty years old, producing wines with distinct fruit character and dark colouration. Yields are kept low to encourage greater fruit concentration. The grapes are entirely hand harvested and destemmed prior to fermentation in old oak foudres and subsequent élevage in neutral French oak barrels all over ten years old. The result is a Village level wine that is a standout in its category, with long-term cellaring potential. Only about 1,500 bottles are produced in each vintage.
