An introduction to Domaine Forey Pere & Fils, Morey-Saint-Denis, Rouge, Burgundy

Morey-Saint-Denis is a commune and appellation located in the Côte de Nuits area of the iconic Burgundy wine region in eastern France. Its 140 hectares cover Village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards that are mostly planted with Pinot Noir. A small quantity of Chardonnay, Aligoté and Pinot Blanc are also produced. The appellation was created in 1936. Village-level Morey-Saint-Denis wine has a bold and fragrant profile, framed by firmer tannins. The organic, old-vine Domaine Forey Père et Fils Morey Saint Denis Rouge displays a core of perfumed concentrated red and black fruit, earthy tannins, a touch of minerality and a lingering finish. This Village Burgundy is suitable for laying down for five to seven years and is approachable young.

Understanding Domaine Forey Pere & Fils, Morey-Saint-Denis, Rouge, Burgundy

Domaine Forey Père et Fils cultivates Pinot Noir from two parcels for its Morey Saint-Denis Rouge. Named Clos Salon and Les Crais, vines were planted between the 1960s and 1990s on well-draining, rich limestone and marlstone soils. Biodiversity is promoted throughout these vineyards, with the use of manmade chemicals kept to a minimum. All fruit is hand-harvested for a tailored selection of the best grapes and to protect them from damaging oxidation prior to vinification. Following cold-soaking and fermentation, this Village wine is aged in 500-litre barrels with 10% to 30% new oak. To preserve the unique vintage and terroir expression, no fining or filtration takes place.
