Widely considered to be the best in the commune and one of the best in the Côte de Beaune, Perrières is a Chardonnay only Premier Cru vineyard at the southern end of Meursault. Vincent Dancer looks after 0.29ha plot within this well-known vineyard planted on stony marl soils. His well-appointed parcel of vines (sitting between those of Roulot and Lafon) was mostly planted in 1963, with a small number of vines planted in the late 1970s. Dancer’s Perrières is a full-bodied and expressive wine, carrying the vineyard’s trademark chalky minerality.

The sustainably farmed, hand-harvested fruit from organic vineyards is vinified with a non-interventionist approach. Wild yeast fermented in oak barrels with natural malolactic fermentation and without bâtonnage to preserve freshness, Dancer eschews the addition of sulfur. Following extended élevage of 17 months in barrels (50% new oak), the wine is blended and transferred to stainless steel tanks for a further five to six months, before bottling unfined and unfiltered. Rich and powerful with superbly balanced racy minerality, this is a classic Perrières. Approachable early, this wine will easily age for 15 years or more. According to Burghound, the 2020 vintage is ‘classic Perrières that is very much built-to-age’.
