Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Meursault Premier Cru, Perrieres, Burgundy
An introduction to Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Meursault Premier Cru, Perrieres, Burgundy
Perrières is a Chardonnay only Premier Cru vineyard at the southern end of Meursault, widely considered to be the best in the commune and one of the best in the Côte de Beaune. The Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Meursault Perrières Blanc is produced from purchased fruit from 50-year old vines on a small 0.25 ha plot located in the lower, flatter part of the Les Perrières Dessous where the soils have a higher percentage of clay. Noted particularly for their minerality, these are elegant, rich wines, with restrained power. These wines can have an incredible longevity and are able to age beautifully for decades.

Understanding Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Meursault Premier Cru, Perrieres, Burgundy
Although this Chardonnay is made from purchased fruit, the domaine manages the work in the vineyard to control the quality of the grapes. Following wild fermentation in a mix of oak barrel and larger casks (usually 30-40% new oak), with an extended élevage without bâtonnage, the domaine also chooses to store the barrels in a very cold cellar to discourage malolactic fermentation. This is classic Meursault, offering citrus, sweet spice, and toasty oak notes, with Colin-Morey’s trademark saline minerality and rapier-like acidity.
