Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Meursault Premier Cru, Genevrieres, Burgundy
An introduction to Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Meursault Premier Cru, Genevrieres, Burgundy
Planted entirely with Chardonnay, Les Genevrières is one of the larger Premier Cru climats at the southern end of the Meursault appellation located on the limestone slopes of the Cote d'Or escarpment. Some of the commune’s finest wines hail from this vineyard, which are often considered the richest and most full-bodied of all Burgundian whites. Colin-Moray only produces two barrels of this impressive, elegant wine, that offers notes of ripe fruit, spice, pleasant nuttiness and toasty oak, with an incredibly long finish. Approachable after a couple of years, this wine will easily age for 15+ years.

Understanding Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Meursault Premier Cru, Genevrieres, Burgundy
This Chardonnay is fermented in a mix of oak barrel and 350 litre casks (50% new oak) with an extended 16-18 months ageing without bâtonnage. The domaine also chooses to store the barrels in a very cold cellar so as not to encourage malolactic fermentation, thus ensuring that this Meursault balances texture and richness with a vibrant crunchy acidity and taut chalky minerality. The wines are very highly regarded among major critics. The American publication Wine Spectator named Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey’s 2014 ‘one of several great wines from this premier cru‘.
