Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Meursault Premier Cru, Charmes, Burgundy
An introduction to Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Meursault Premier Cru, Charmes, Burgundy
Planted entirely with Chardonnay, Les Charmes is one of Meursault’s largest and most recognised Premier Cru vineyards. It is located on a gentle slope at the bottom of the Cote d'Or escarpment at the southern end of the village. Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Meursault Les Charmes comes from a parcel of 80-year-old vines high on the slope on the Puligny side of the climat, close to Perrières where the thin, rocky soils are well drained with a broken layer of limestone beneath. These wines express themselves beautifully, with aromatic bright fruit, white flowers, and savoury toasty wood, framed by chalky minerality and rapier-like acidity. Recommended ageing for up to ten years.

Understanding Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Meursault Premier Cru, Charmes, Burgundy
This Chardonnay from sustainably farmed, old vine fruit is fermented in a mix of oak barrel and 350 litre casks with an extended 18 months ageing without bâtonnage, which creates a wine that balances texture, richness, and vibrancy. This is a hugely complex wines, partly thanks to a tiny percentage of Chardonnay Muscaté included in the blend. The domaine also chooses to store the wines in a very cold cellar to prevent malolactic fermentation, ensuring the wine retains the piercing acidity characteristic of the Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey wines.
