Louis Latour, Meursault Premier Cru, Les Gouttes d'Or, Burgundy
An introduction to Louis Latour, Meursault Premier Cru, Les Gouttes d'Or, Burgundy
Les Gouttes d'Or is a highly-regarded Premier Cru vineyard located in the Meursault appellation in eastern France’s iconic Burgundy wine region. This 5.3-hectare site boasts a gently-sloping, east-facing aspect with a slight southerly exposure. It has limestone-rich soils where Chardonnay, the sole grape variety in this vineyard, thrives. This Premier Cru site, whose name translates as "the droplets of gold" was a favourite of President Thomas Jefferson. The old-vine Domaine Louis Latour Meursault Goutte d'Or displays fragrant vanilla, honey, toasted bread and generous fresh stone fruit with oaky hints, finishing with tension. It is suitable for five to seven years of cellaring where it will develop even greater complexity and harmony.

Understanding Louis Latour, Meursault Premier Cru, Les Gouttes d'Or, Burgundy
The domaine cultivates its Chardonnay vines in Genevrières with sustainable agricultural methods. The easterly and southerly aspects benefit the vines with morning and early afternoon sunlight for steady, full ripening. To preserve the quality of the fruit, meticulous manual harvesting allows for a highly-selective process that ensures only the finest berries are vinified. In the winery, this Premier Cru sees traditional fermentation in oak followed by complete malolactic fermentation for a creamy, soft mouthfeel. It is aged in 50% new, medium-toasted oak barrels from the Louis Latour in-house cooperage for eight to ten months to allow components to deepen for greater depth and complexity.
