Domaine de Montille, Meursault Premier Cru, Porusot, Burgundy
An introduction to Domaine de Montille, Meursault Premier Cru, Porusot, Burgundy
The Premier Cru Les Poruzots cuvée by Domaine de Montille is sourced from a 0.63 hectare plot of Chardonnay vines in the Premier Cru designated vineyard of Les Poruzots, just to the south of the village of Meursault. The rocky topsoil and clay-inflected marl subsoil of the site combine with the easterly aspect to produce grapes of rich phenolic character that are famously site expressive. The wines from the Les Poruzots vineyard are some of the richest and most exotically fragranced in the commune. This bottling by Domaine de Montille shows notes of quince, pear and tarte-citron on the nose, offering great freshness despite its opulent texture.

Understanding Domaine de Montille, Meursault Premier Cru, Porusot, Burgundy
The old vines that comprise the Premier Cru Les Poruzots cuvée by Domaine de Montille are farmed biodynamically, and much of the vineyard work is timed to be in accordance with the lunar cycle. No chemical inputs are used and tractor passage is kept to a minimum. The grapes are hand-picked and pressed lightly in a pneumatic press before fermentation occurs in a mixture of neutral 600l demi-muids and 228l barriques. After one year of élevage, the wine is racked into a steel tank to complete the maturation process prior to bottling. The result is a terroir-driven expression of Premier Cru Meursault, with the neutral oak used during maturation retaining the natural vibrancy of the Les Poruzots fruit.
