Domaine de Montille, Meursault Premier Cru, Perrieres, Burgundy
An introduction to Domaine de Montille, Meursault Premier Cru, Perrieres, Burgundy
The Premier Cru Meursault Les Perrières cuvée by Domaine de Montille is sourced from a 0.45 hectare plot of Chardonnay vines planted in the Premier Cru designated vineyard of Les Perrieres in the village of the Meursault. The name of the vineyard relates its history as a quarry, and the resultant pebbly topsoil offers good drainage for the vines and yields consistently ripe fruit with good phenolic concentration. Often considered to be the greatest of all the Premier Cru sites in the commune, the Les Perrieres terroir produces wines of seamless balance between minerality and fullness, and this expression by Domaine de Montille offers both great poise and ample generosity in the mouth.

Understanding Domaine de Montille, Meursault Premier Cru, Perrieres, Burgundy
The old vines that comprise the Premier Cru Les Perrières cuvée by Domaine de Montille are farmed biodynamically without use of chemical inputs and in accordance with the lunar calendar. The grapes are hand-picked and pressed lightly in a pneumatic press before fermentation occurs in a mixture of 600l demi-muids and 228l barriques, of which approximately 30% were new. After one year of élevage the wine is racked into a steel tank to complete the maturation process prior to bottling. The result is an elegant expression of Premier Cru Meursault, offering notes of beeswax, tarte citron and marmalade and a vibrant core of acidity. It should mature well under cork for at least ten years.
