An introduction to Domaine d'Auvenay, Meursault Premier Cru, Les Gouttes d'Or, Burgundy
Les Gouttes d'Or is a Premier Cru vineyard in the Meursault appellation in the Côte de Beaune. The vines are planted on stony chalk soils rich in fragmented limestone, and the wines are distinctive for their notable minerality. A relatively recent addition to the Domaine d’Auvenay portfolio, from a 0.2ha plot of vines, the first vintage of their Meursault Les Gouttes d’Or was released in 1996. Seductive and refined yet full-bodied and immense, Bize-Leroy claims these wines need decades to come around.

Understanding Domaine d'Auvenay, Meursault Premier Cru, Les Gouttes d'Or, Burgundy
Like all Bize-Leroy’s wines, this Meursault Les Gouttes d’Or comes from hand-picked, biodynamically farmed grapes. The Chardonnay is whole bunch pressed and fermented using wild yeasts in wooden vats before undergoing extended élevage on lees in 100% new oak barrels. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, this is a strikingly pure wine, balancing full-bodied richness with sublime mineral acidity and length. The Wine Advocate’s William Kelley said that the ‘2016 Meursault 1er Cru Les Gouttes d'Or is one of the finest bottlings in Domaine d'Auvenay's portfolio this year, and evidently one of the wines of the vintage too’.
