The Premier Cru area of Goutte d’Or spans just five hectares, meaning it is hard to come by, with annual production averaging about 60,000 bottles. The name translates to ‘drop of gold’, referring to the soil’s high levels of golden-coloured flint, but the reality of a thin clay-limestone substrate means plants can have a hard time rooting. Moreover, due to the influence of the Combe d’Auxey winds, the Goutte d’Or produces Meursault’s most tense wines with impressive ageability. Buisson-Charles is fortunate to have vines planted in 1979 located in the middle of the area, where the rows are intersecting across the entire Cru from the top of the slope to the bottom. They are east-facing and thus benefit from ideal levels of sunshine.

The Chardonnay vines are farmed organically, and the wine matures in casks with 20% new oak. The winemakers believe they must not pick the grapes at high maturity, as this would risk losing the essence of the plot. Goutte d’Or wines typically show aromas of ripe orchard fruit, and Buisson-Charles’ expression has been highly praised for its finesse, slender structure, refreshing acidity and compact minerality.
