The Premier Cru of Bouchères is located on an east-facing hillside extending towards Poruzots and Genevrières. The sloping stony clay-limestone area is famed for its superb drainage abilities. The Buisson-Charles plot is at the heart of a particularly stony area with a highly complex terroir including pebbles, and small bushes on the ground (the ‘bouchots’ gave Bouchères its name over time). The winemakers consider this plot, planted with vines in 1954, their most delicate and subtle. Its hallmark is ageability, with wines from the 1950s still in perfect shape.

The Chardonnay vines are farmed organically, and the wine matures for 17 months in 228 litre casks with 20% new oak. Considered their most elegant cuvee, Buisson-Charles’s Meursault Bouches Chères is celebrated for its fine bouquet of acacia and lemon shortbread, as well as notes of fresh hazelnut that indicate its closeness to Genevrières. It also shares with its neighbour a notable airy quality, which is matched by a racy acidity that plays off the silky texture beautifully. The wine has been praised for its ‘poise and polish’ by Robin Kick MW and has consistently scored highly by Allen Meadows of Burghound, who has complimented its broad and delicate, floral aromas as well as its purity, balance and focus.
