The Premier Cru area of Goutte d’Or spans just five hectares, meaning the wines are often hard to come by, with just 60,000 bottles produced a year. The name translates to ‘drop of gold’, referring to the soil’s high levels of golden-coloured flint, but the reality of a thin clay-limestone substrate means plants can have a hard time rooting. Moreover, due to the influence of the Combe d’Auxey winds, the Goutte D’Or produces Meursault’s most tense wines, which as a result have impressive ageability. The Domaine Arnaud Ente vines were planted in 1990 over a total surface area of 0.22 hectares. They have eastern and western-facing exposure, benefiting from ideal levels of sunshine.

Understanding Arnaud Ente, Meursault Premier Cru, Les Gouttes d'Or, Burgundy
Produced from sustainably farmed Chardonnay grapes, the wine is fermented and aged for 12 months in French oak barrels with 20% new oak, followed by 6 months in stainless steel. It is bottled without filtration or fining. The stunningly elegant nose melds floral notes like acacia blossom and lilac with confit citrus, fresh fennel, and orchard fruit. The palate contrasts in terms of its power, concentration and sappy fruit core, which are held together seamlessly by an exceptionally vibrant acidity.
