Perrot-Minot, Mazoyeres-Chambertin Grand Cru, Vieilles Vignes, Burgundy
An introduction to Perrot-Minot, Mazoyeres-Chambertin Grand Cru, Vieilles Vignes, Burgundy
Planted entirely with Pinot Noir, Mazoyères-Chambertin is a Grand Cru located at the southern end of the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin in the Côte du Nuits. Perrot-Minot’s Mazoyères-Chambertin comes from a small 0.74 ha holding of 60-year-old vines located high up the slope. The soils are shallow, with a layer of clay-limestone and gravel over rock. The result are spicy, structured, textural wines framed by fresh minerality. These are wines that will require several years in bottle and will reward extended cellaring of 10-15+ years.

Understanding Perrot-Minot, Mazoyeres-Chambertin Grand Cru, Vieilles Vignes, Burgundy
This organically farmed Pinot Noir is harvested entirely by hand to ensure that any under-ripe grapes are removed. Like the rest of Perrot-Minot’s top wines, a proportion of whole bunch fruit is used in the fermentation, with subtle extraction using pump-overs and only the free-run juice. Spending up to 18 months in oak barrels, the reduced proportion of new oak (30%) ensures the wines retain focus and precision alongside the brooding savoury fruit. The production of Perrot-Minot Morey-Saint-Denis Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru is very limited and often less than 3,000 bottles per vintage. According to The Wine Advocate, the 2019 vintage is ‘invariably one of Perrot-Minot's finest wines,’ adding that it ‘lives up to expectations’.
