Dugat-Py, Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru, Fonteny, Burgundy
An introduction to Dugat-Py, Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru, Fonteny, Burgundy
Fonteny is a Premier Cru climat found in the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation of the iconic Côte de Nuits sub-region in eastern France’s Burgundy region. The vineyard is found between the village of Gevrey-Chambertin itself and the Grand Cru hill further south where some of Burgundy’s top climats are situated. Owing to its northeast aspect, wines from Fonteny are made in a slightly leaner style than its counterparts in sunnier Burgundy vineyards. The Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py Gevrey Chambertin Fonteny shows spicy dark fruit with appealing saline notes and a wash of minerality. It has a rich palate balanced by good acidity and firm tannins from new oak. Tim Atkin MW awarded its 2018 vintage 98-points. Wines from Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py are renowned for their age-worthiness, and their Gevrey Chambertin Fonteny is no exception. It can be approachable young after careful decanting. The domaine produces 500 bottles of this Burgundy annually.
