An introduction to Dugat-Py, Gevrey-Chambertin, Les Evocelles Tres Vieilles Vignes, Burgundy
Les Evocelles is a vineyard located in the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation of the Côte-d'Or in eastern France’s iconic Burgundy wine region. This Village-level lieux-dit covers about ten-and-a-half hectares of vineyards on a steep and stony, east-facing incline and is entirely planted with Pinot Noir. It borders the Premier Cru vineyards Les Champeaux and Les Goulots to the south. The old-vine Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin Evocelles boasts complex layers of blueberry and blackberry with hints of violet, baked earth and animal fur. It is a medium-bodied, satiny red with fine tannins and a wash of minerality on its lingering finish. The domaine produces about 1,500 to 2,400 bottles annually. As with all of Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py wines, this Village Burgundy has good cellaring potential and can also be enjoyed young after decanting.

Les Evocelles is a stony vineyard with clay-limestone soils that Pinot Noir loves. Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py cultivates just under one hectare of vines, planted in the 1950s, in this lieux-dit. The holding is farmed organically. In the winery, the domaine approaches élevage with minimal interventionist practices to support full expression of the terroir and vintage. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel with ambient yeast and the wines undergo no filtering prior to bottling to deepen their distinct character. This Village Burgundy matures in 100% new oak for 16 to 18 months. Burghound has described Bernard Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin Evocelles as an ‘outstanding’ wine.
