An introduction to Domaine Ponsot, Gevrey-Chambertin, Cuvee de l'Abeille, Burgundy
The Cuvée de l’Abeille from Domaine Ponsot is a Village level wine sourced primarily from the lieu-dit of Les Epointures, situated on the southern slopes of the Gevrey-Chambertin hillside and planted entirely with Pinot Noir. The soils here result in wines of great structure, with firm but fine tannins, good fruit concentration and a famously dark colour.

Understanding Domaine Ponsot, Gevrey-Chambertin, Cuvee de l'Abeille, Burgundy
The vines for the Domaine Ponsot Cuvée de l’Abeille bottling were replanted in 2012, and these younger vines produce a wine with a distinctly fruit-forward character. On the palate, the wine shows pure, crystalline red fruit notes and firm tannic structure, supported by 14 months élevage in neutral French oak barrels, all older than ten years. The grapes are manually harvested , before undergoing fermentation with natural yeast. This is a wine that will continue to evolve with careful cellaring for several years.
