Understanding Domaine Heresztyn-Mazzini, Gevrey-Chambertin, Vieilles Vignes, Burgundy

The Domaine Heresztyn-Mazzini Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is produced from 100% Pinot Noir grapes, farmed organically since 2016, and harvested entirely by hand. The vines, planted between 1950 and 1995, are found on clay limestone soil, containing a good proportion of marl, rich in fossilized shells. This cuvée is made up of approximately 50% whole bunches, with maturation in oak barrels (30% new) for 16-18 months. The result is bottled on-site, without fining or filtration, culminating in a complex and refined wine, with marked elegance on the palate. Notes of red fruit and spices abound in this robust, structured cuvée. Wine Enthusiast described the 2010 as ‘concentrated, with black plum and damson flavors that are balanced by firm, dense tannins’.
