General Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru wines can be labelled as such when the grapes come from sites on any of the 26 Premier Cru vineyards in the commune, which stretch over 84 hectares of the total 450 hectares. The terroir across the sites is characterized by a marginal continental climate and iron-rich red soils over a sub-strata of marls and limestone. Domaine Claude Dugat owns Premier Cru plots in Lavaux St-Jacques, Craipillot, and La Perrière and this cuvee is produced from a mixture of vines in these climats.

Understanding Claude Dugat, Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru, Burgundy
Made from sustainably farmed Pinot Noir grapes, the wine is fermented in concrete barrels with native yeasts before spending 18 months aging in oak barrels with 100% new wood. It is then bottled unfined and unfiltered. The wine’s expressive bouquet offers ripe plum and cassis melding with toasted oak and spicy notes, and smoky undertones. The wine is full-bodied yet elegant, with velvety tannins and intense flavours combining with plenty of finesse. Its richness, depth and balanced finish have been noted by the Burghound critic Allen Meadows.
