Understanding Domaine Ponsot, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, Burgundy
The Domaine Ponsot Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne is typically composed of fruit from two Grand Cru climats, Languettes and Le Charlemagne, located on the southeastern slope of the Corton-Charlemagne hillside. The hand-picked grapes are destemmed and fermented in old foudres, before élevage in exclusively old French oak barrels to retain fruit character and define the sense of terroir. The wine is typically full-bodied with notes of peach, greengage and orange oil, and a long saline finish that is a hallmark of the appellation.
