Bertrand Ambroise, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, Burgundy
An introduction to Bertrand Ambroise, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, Burgundy
Corton-Charlemagne is considered one of the greatest vineyards in Burgundy, and it is produced across much of the top portion of the oval-shaped Montagne de Corton hill. The high acidity content of the grapes is guaranteed through south, south-west, south-east, and north-west exposure. The complex terroir comprises a kaleidoscope of marly soils, with yellowish, ochre and brown hues, all rich in clay. There are also limestone banks in the subsoil alternating with marls under a thin layer of rendzines. The domaine’s cuvee is produced from vines in both Aloxe-Corton and Ladoix.

Understanding Bertrand Ambroise, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, Burgundy
Produced from organically farmed Chardonnay grapes since 2013, the wine is fermented and then aged in oak barrels for up to 22 months with 100% new oak. The wine is then bottled unfiltered and unfined. The presence of the oak is apparent, with toasty and vanilla notes accompanying apple and lemon fruit on the bouquet, yet it is not overpowering, as is shown on the palate which has plenty of tingly minerals and fresh acidity to balance the broad-shoulder structure of the wine and offer layers to the persistent finish.
