These include Wine Enthusiast’s for 2014 and 2018, Tim Atkin MW for the 2014, 2016 and 2018, and Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate for the 2011 vintage. Domaine Albert Bichot Clos de la Roche Grand Cru can be cellared for ten to twenty years.

Understanding Albert Bichot, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru, Burgundy

Clos de la Roche covers nearly 17 hectares with east and southeast aspects and a predominance of well-draining limestone soils with some marl. It is named for its rocky ridge but the wall or ‘clos’ that originally surrounded it has long since disappeared. The largest and most northerly vineyard of its classification in this area, it encompasses numerous vine parcels tended by top names in the region. Vines are situated at an altitude of between 250 and 300 metres, supporting grape acidity to balance the plump, fruity character of Clos de la Roche wines. Domaine Albert Bichot Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Pinot Noir sees vinification for 20 to 28 days in temperature-controlled conical oak vats and 14 to 16 months in 50-70% new oak. The result is a concentrated red with good structure. Wine Enthusiast has described this Albert Bichot wine as ‘exceptional’.
