Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru, Burgundy
An introduction to Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru, Burgundy
Chevalier-Montrachet is a Chardonnay only Grand Cru appellation, and one of the most southerly Grand Crus of the Côte de Beaune situated directly above the Puligny section of le Montrachet. This Chevalier-Montrachet comes for a small, leased plot of 60-year-old vines planted at 320 metres in the middle tier of the vineyard on stony thin limestone soils, allowing easy access to the minerals within the limestone substrata. Big, fresh, and vibrant, these wines are approachable early but will age beautifully over the next 5-10+ years.

Understanding Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru, Burgundy
Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chevalier-Montrachet Blanc was fermented using wild yeasts in large oak casks, undergoing an extended élevage of up to 18 months without bâtonnage, fining or filtration before bottling. The domaine also chooses to store these wines in a very cold cellar to prevent malolactic fermentation. As a result, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey’s Chevalier-Montrachet Blanc is an expressive, structured Chardonnay that is fruit-driven, offering notable minerality and mouth-watering acidity. According to Tim Atkin MW, ‘this is a brilliant wine from one of Burgundy’s best white winemakers’.
