An introduction to Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Caillerets, Burgundy
Planted entirely with Chardonnay, ‘Cailleret’ is an umbrella title covering several lieu-dits. Stretching up the hillside to the south of Chassagne-Montrachet village, it is widely considered to be one of Chassagne-Montrachet's top Premier Cru vineyards. Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets comes from a miniscule 0.17 ha parcel of old vine fruit situated at an altitude of 280-300m at the top of the slope on thin limestone rich soils. The Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets Premier Cru wines offer huge complexity, concentration, and depth.

Understanding Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Caillerets, Burgundy
This Chardonnay from sustainably farmed, old vine fruit is fermented using native yeasts in large oak barrels (30-40% new oak) with an extended élevage of up to 18 months without lees stirring, fining or filtration before bottling. The domaine also chooses to store the wines in a very cold cellar to prevent malolactic fermentation. The resulting wines have concentrated fruit and vanilla bean notes, framed by tangy acidity and the trademark searing minerality so evident in all of Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey wines. Approachable after a couple of years, these wines will age beautifully over the next 10+ years. For the wine critic William Kelley (The Wine Advocate), ‘Pierre-Yves' Chassagne Caillerets is one of the greatest premier cru white Burgundies in all the Côte’.
