Chassagne-Montrachet is a Village appellation within the Côte de Beaune that also includes several Grand Cru and Premier Cru climats. Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne Montrachet ‘Ancégnières’ comes from the tiny climat of Les Encégnières (spelled here with an ‘A’ by Colin-Morey), superbly located just below the Grand Cru vineyard of Batard-Montrachet, and home to the domaine’s oldest vines. Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne Montrachet ‘Ancégnières’ is produced from a tiny 0.26 ha plot, combining fruit from 45-80-year-old parcels planted in limestone rich soils.

Understanding Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Chassagne-Montrachet, Les Ancegnieres, Burgundy
This Chardonnay from sustainably farmed, hand-picked old vine fruit is fermented using native yeasts in a mix of oak barrels and 350 litre demi-muids (30-40% new oak), with an extended élevage of up to 18 months without lees stirring, fining or filtration before bottling. By Village standards, this is a big wine, with complexity and depth of flavour. The crisp acidity lends a tautness that balances the assertive oak. The wine is approachable with a few years of bottle age and will reward cellaring. According to Jasper Morris, ‘not for nothing is Les Ancégnières an emblematic cuvée chez Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey’.
