Louis Latour, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Chenevottes, Burgundy
An introduction to Louis Latour, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Chenevottes, Burgundy
Les Chenevottes is a Premier Cru vineyard located at the foot of the Mont-Rachet hill in the Chassagne-Montrachet commune of Burgundy. It covers 11 hectares of vines planted exclusively with Chardonnay. The gently-sloping Les Chenevottes has good sun exposure and is subdivided into two smaller Premier Cru lieu-dits called Les Commes and Les Bondues. Wines from these two spots can use the individual lieu-dit name or Les Chenevottes. The name of the vineyard derives from the old French word for “hemp”, indicating that this plant was once grown here. The Domaine Louis Latour Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes boasts notes of grilled hazelnut, mocha hints and spicy pear in an ample palate with honey and almond notes. Rounded and balanced, the finish is fresh and lifted. This Premier Cru is suitable for five to seven years of cellaring.

Understanding Louis Latour, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Chenevottes, Burgundy
The domaine cultivates old Chardonnay vines with sustainable viticulture methods. Clay-limestone soils on a very gradual southeast-facing slope provide good sun exposure for steady and full grape ripening. Grapes are carefully harvested by hand in a highly-selective process that ensures only the finest fruit is vinified. In the winery, this elegant Premier Cru sees traditional fermentation in oak followed by complete malolactic fermentation for a creamy, soft mouthfeel. It is aged in 50% new, medium-toasted oak barrels from the Louis Latour in-house cooperage for eight to ten months to allow components to deepen for greater complexity.
