At 58 hectares, Morgeot is the largest Premier Cru vineyard in Chassagne-Montrachet, the prestigious appellation in the Côte de Beaune in eastern France’s iconic Burgundy wine region. The vineyard encompasses about 20 Premier Cru climats. Of the 55 Premier Cru vineyards in Chassagne-Montrachet, Morgeot is one of the better known. The terroir is suitable for red wine production and most of its area is planted with Pinot Noir. However, some of the more elevated plots are suitable for the cultivation of high-quality white grapes. Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py Chassagne Montrachet Morgeot Blanc Tres Vieilles Vignes is crafted from very old Chardonnay vines, a characteristic this producer is renowned for. Opulent, creamy and full-bodied with a pleasing delicately oily texture, the wine usually displays layers of pear and citrus with nutmeg and almond notes, all balanced by a fresh backbone of acidity. Approachable at any age, Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py Chassagne Montrachet Morgeot Blanc Tres Vieilles Vignes has good ageing potential. Production is very limited, between 700 to 900 bottles annually.

The domaine cultivates the En Franchemont a lieu-dit, a spot that features the clay-limestone soils in which Chardonnay thrives. The vines were planted in the 1950s, resulting in concentrated, fine-quality berries. The old vines are farmed organically, followed by traditional vinification and ambient yeast adding to the unique character of each vintage. This Chardonnay is not filtered, a practice that increases the individuality of the wine. The wine is then matured in 100% new oak for 18 to 20 months. Robert Parker has described Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py Chassagne Montrachet Morgeot Blanc Tres Vieilles Vignes as a ‘rich, ripe wine’.
