Bruno Colin, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Chenevottes, Burgundy
An introduction to Bruno Colin, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Chenevottes, Burgundy
Les Chenevottes is a Premier Cru vineyard at the base of the Mont-Rachet hill in the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet. It is one of the larger climats in the region, covering 11 hectares (27 acres) of land planted entirely with Chardonnay. The vineyard is at the northern end of the commune, near the Saint-Aubin Premier Cru climats that stretch up the hill. Les Chenevottes benefits from a gravelly, pebbly soil that, despite the vineyard's relative flatness, offers good drainage. The soil is rich in limestone, which imparts flinty minerality to the wines. Benefitting from ample sunshine, vines have plenty of time to ripen over the long growing season, while cooler nights help with the retention of acidity.

Understanding Bruno Colin, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Chenevottes, Burgundy
Domaine Bruno Colin Les Chenevottes made from 100% Chardonnay vines planted in 1979. Following hand-harvesting and sorting in the vineyard, the grapes are processed with pneumatic pressing and settling, before fermentation on fine lees in oak barrels with 20 to 25% new oak. The wine matures in oak for 12 months before being racked and mass blended in stainless steel vats for 3 to 6 months. Bruno Colin’s Les Chenevottes possesses an intensely aromatic nose, with exotic fruit notes. This is a powerful, sensual and luxurious wine, with a long and refreshing finish. The wine has achieved numerous scores in the high 90s by Tim Atkin MW, Jasper Morris MW and Wine Spectator.
