An introduction to Bruno Colin, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, La Boudriotte Blanc, Burgundy

La Boudriotte is a small Premier Cru vineyard site in the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation in Burgundy. Located just southeast of the Chassagne-Montrachet village, the vineyard is planted with both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. La Boudriotte lies within the grounds of Morgeot Abbey and is one of over 20 sub-divisions of the more famous, 58-hectare Morgeot Premier Cru. Its wines are more often labelled with the latter designation. Based on Bathonian limestone, the plot is free-draining, which encourages deeper rooting as the vines seek to access mineral-laden water deeper in the ground.

Understanding Bruno Colin, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, La Boudriotte Blanc, Burgundy

Domaine Bruno Colin La Boudriotte Chassagne-Montrachet is produced from 100% Chardonnay from the La Boudriotte vineyard situated within the Morgeot Premier Cru. Grapes for the wine are harvested by hand from vines planted in 1951 and 1977, before selective sorting in the vineyards, pneumatic pressing and settling. The wine ferments on fine lees in oak barrels with 20 to 25% new oak. It is aged in oak for 12 months before being racked and mass blended in stainless steel vats for 3 to 6 months. Once matured and bottled, Bruno Colin’s La Boudriotte reveals aromas of white flowers, with a fine balance between finesse and strength, making it open and direct. The palate is full, round, fleshy and succulent with a long, mineral finish. This Premier Cru offers excellent ageing potential.
