An introduction to Bruno Colin, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Blanchot Dessous, Burgundy
Blanchot Dessus is a small, but well-renowned Premier Cru vineyard within the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation of the southern Côte d'Or. It is located on the very southern end of the famed Le Montrachet Grand Cru climat and is planted entirely with Chardonnay. Encompassing only 1.1 hectares, the vineyard sits on a very gentle south-facing slope, which differentiates it somewhat from its illustrious, east-facing neighbour. It shares similar soils to Le Montrachet, with a gravelly layer of stones covering the limestone below.

Understanding Bruno Colin, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Blanchot Dessous, Burgundy
Domaine Bruno Colin Chassagne-Montrachet Blanchot Dessus is a 100% Chardonnay, made from vines planted in 1977. The grapes are harvested by hand, prior to pneumatic pressing and settling. After fermentation, the wine matures on fine lees in oak barrels with 20 to 25% new oak. The wine is aged in oak for 12 months before being racked and blended in stainless steel vats for 3 to 6 months. Fining and filtration occurs if necessary, before bottling at the domaine. Tension and energy complement this wine’s aromas of white flowers and fresh fruits, leading to a concentration and precision.
