Benjamin Leroux, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Embazees Blanc, Burgundy
An introduction to Benjamin Leroux, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Embazees Blanc, Burgundy
The Les Embazées Premier Cru cuvée by Benjamin Leroux comes from a small plot of old Chardonnay vines in the Premier Cru Les Embazées vineyard situated on the hillsides just to the south of Chassagne-Montrachet. The steep gradient of the Les Embazées slope and its easterly aspect promote good sun exposure, and wines from this climat typically show exuberant fruit character and a full mouthfeel. The Leroux bottling demonstrates this quality well, with a creaminess on the palate and notes of ripe pear and nectarine on the nose.

Understanding Benjamin Leroux, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Embazees Blanc, Burgundy
The old vines under Benjamin Leroux’s care are farmed with a focus on sustainability and primarily by manual means. The grapes are hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed, before fermentation with ambient yeast in mostly neutral French oak barrels (there is 20% new oak). The wine is matured for 16 months and bottled with minimal sulphur and non-sterile filtration. The resultant wine is textural and mouth-filling, with acidity enough to support it through a period of careful cellar of up to a decade or more.
