The Domaine Drouhin Vaudésir Grand Cru is sourced from a 1.4-hectare plot of old Chardonnay vines grown across two parcels within the Grand Cru vineyard of Vaudésir. The location of the vineyard spread across two inward-facing hillsides creates a sort of topographical ampitheatre, which can work beneficially as a heat trap during the summer months and ensure that the berries reach good phenolic ripeness. The concentration and tension is evident in this cuvée from Domaine Drouhin Vaudon, showing good weight in the mouth and a bouquet of lilies, hay, and fresh pear. Vaudésir was one of the vineyards first restored by Robert Drouhin in the late 1960s, and the domaine has a historic and intricate knowledge of its terroir.

The vines for the Drouhin Vaudon Vaudésir cuvée are farmed entirely biodynamically. All vineyard work is done either by horse and plough or by hand, so as not to cause soil compaction with tractors or other machinery. No herbicides or pesticides are used, and the harvest is manual. In the winery, the grapes are lightly pressed and fermented in steel tanks, before the wine is racked to neutral French oak barrels to mature for 12 months. The finished wine shows good fruit concentration and textural harmony, unmarred by intrusive oak character, and should drink well over the next ten to fifteen years.
