The Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py Bourgogne Halinard Rouge is a Regional Bourgogne Rouge wine made from a blend of fruit from young and old, organically-cultivated vines. Grapes come from parcels in Gevrey-Chambertin in Côte-d'Or. Red, white and rosé wines are made, with the largest share of vineland, about 1855 hectares, planted with Pinot Noir. The appellation was created in 1937. Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py Bourgogne Halinard Rouge displays concentrated red-berry fruit with peppery oak and signature earthy mushroom notes in a well-rounded and supple classic expression of Burgundy. It has good cellaring potential but is enjoyable young after careful decanting. The domaine produces 2,500 to 3,000 bottles annually.

Understanding Dugat-Py, Bourgogne, Cuvee Halinard, Burgundy

Red Bourgogne tends to hail from vine parcels situated across the foot of vineyard slopes on well-draining limestone, clay and marl soils. The Pinot Noir vines are often found a stone’s throw from more prestigious appellations. The Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py Bourgogne Halinard Rouge is made from a blend of grapes from parcels that were planted between the 1940s and 1990s around the Gevrey-Chambertin commune. The domaine has a minimal interventionist approach to winemaking to allows for a distinct terroir and vintage expression. Fermentation is with ambient yeasts and there is no filtration before bottling which adds to the individuality of each cuvée. Maturation takes place over 15 to 18 months in 10% new oak.
