Domaine de Montille, Beaune Premier Cru, Les Greves, Burgundy
An introduction to Domaine de Montille, Beaune Premier Cru, Les Greves, Burgundy
The Premier Cru Les Grèves cuvée by Domaine de Montille is sourced from a 1.26 hectare parcel of Pinot Noir vines planted in the Premier Cru Les Grèves vineyard in the Beaune town commune. The name of the site relates to the gravelly nature of the soil that offers good drainage for grapevines and results in small quantities of concentrated fruit. The Domaine de Montille holdings are located in the middle of the vineyard, just above the famous lieu-dit of Vigne l’Enfant Jesus, and the wine shows great purity of fruit on the nose and the silken mouthfeel characteristic of the better Beaune Premier Crus.

Understanding Domaine de Montille, Beaune Premier Cru, Les Greves, Burgundy
The old vines of the Domaine de Montille parcel in the Premier Cru Les Grèves vineyard are farmed sustainably and in accordance with biodynamic principles without herbicide or pesticide application. The grapes are hand-harvested and partially destemmed into wooden ermenters, although a portion of stems and whole bunches is retained to lend aromatic nuance and intensity. Extraction during fermentation is principally managed with pigeage twice a day. Following fermentation, the wine is matured in French oak barrels, of which approximately 20% are new, before bottling with a non-sterile filtration. The result is a Premier Cru that offers a rare degree of finesse, showing great presence in the mouth and a long, tactile finish.
