Château Rieussec, located in the Sauternes region of Bordeaux, dates back to the 18th century. This prestigious estate was once owned by the Carmelite monks of Langon until the French Revolution, after which it changed hands several times before coming under the stewardship of the Rothschild family (owners of Château Lafite Rothschild) in 1984. This transition marked a new era of investment and innovation, elevating the château's already distinguished reputation. With its vast expanse of vineyards adjacent to those of the legendary Château d'Yquem, Château Rieussec benefits from an exceptional terroir that is ideally suited for the cultivation of Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes. The process behind the creation of Château Rieussec's esteemed wines involves several selective pickings in the vineyard, ensuring that only grapes at the peak of noble rot influence are harvested. The best fruit is used for the Grand Vin. This labour-intensive approach in the vineyard results in exceptionally concentrated and flavourful musts. Fermentation and ageing occur in French oak barrels, about half of which are new. Maturation typically takes 26 months before bottling. Château Rieussec features honeyed stone fruit and tropical fruit, ginger, candied citrus and spicy oak nuances in a velvety, luxuriant palate with balancing fresh acidity. This Grand Vin has impressive cellaring capacity.
