Understanding Amiral de Beychevelle, Saint-Julien, Bordeaux
The grapes for Amiral de Beychevelle are selected from the younger vines of the Château Beychevelle estate, which is characterised by its famed deep gravel soils. This terroir is ideal for producing wines with remarkable balance, aromatic complexity and smooth tannins, essential traits of Saint-Julien wines. The winemaking process for Amiral de Beychevelle parallels that of its Grand Vchateauin, with careful attention to detail. The grapes are gently fermented, and the wine is then aged in French oak for 18 months. This stage allows it to develop subtle nuances of wood and spice without overshadowing the vibrant fruit flavours. Amiral de Beychevelle displays red and black fruit and hints of vanilla and cedar on a finessed palate with silky tannins. This wine has the capacity for medium-term cellaring.
