Château Trotte Vieille, located in the esteemed Saint-Émilion appellation of Bordeaux, France, is steeped in history and tradition. Its winemaking origins can be traced back to the early 15th century, making it one of the oldest estates in the region. The château's curious name, "Trotte Vieille," or "old lady trot," is said to derive from a legend about an old lady who lived on the property. She would hurry to the road whenever she heard the stagecoach approaching, eager for news from Paris. The estate has been meticulously preserved and modernised over the centuries, combining its rich heritage with innovative winemaking techniques to enhance the expression of its unique terroir. The estate tends ten hectares of vines within a walled vineyard with some boasting an age of more than 140 years. This estate was classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé B in the Saint-Émilion classification, underscoring its long-standing reputation for producing wines of exceptional quality. Since 1949, the estate has belonged to the Borie-Manoux négociant business.

Understanding Chateau Trotte Vieille Premier Grand Cru Classe B, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, Bordeaux
Château Trotte Vieille employs sustainable viticultural practices to ensure the health and vitality of the vineyard, with a focus on hand-harvesting and careful sorting to select the best possible fruit. The wine is fermented for up to 20 days in temperature-controlled concrete vats to promote rich fruit purity. This is followed by ageing in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new, allowing the wine to develop complexity without overwhelming the natural fruit flavours. Château Trotte Vieille displays ripe red and black fruit, floral notes and a hint of spice in a velvety palate with well-integrated tannins.
