A brief history of Chateau Rocheyron, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, Bordeaux

Located in the picturesque landscape of Saint-Émilion, in the heart of Bordeaux, Château Rocheyron was founded in the early 20th century. The estate has been rejuvenated under the stewardship of Peter Sisseck, a renowned Danish winemaker, and Silvio Denz, a respected figure in the luxury goods industry. Their collaboration, beginning in the 2010s, marked a new era for Château Rocheyron, focusing on harnessing the exceptional qualities of the Saint-Émilion terroir. The vineyards of Château Rocheyron are perched on the plateau of Saint-Émilion, benefiting from limestone and clay soils that impart complexity and minerality to the wines. The house cultivates nearly eight-and-a-half hectares of vines planted 70% to Merlot and 30% to Cabernet Franc. The average age of the vines is 45 years, but some are more than 70 and are among the oldest in the commune. The estate employs organic farming practices to preserve the health of the vineyard and its surrounding environment.

Understanding Chateau Rocheyron, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, Bordeaux

The excellence of Château Rocheyron's wines is the result of a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation. The grapes are harvested at optimal maturity to ensure the perfect balance of fruit concentration and acidity. Vinification is carried out plot-by-plot for precise terroir expression, with fermentation taking place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats and cement tanks to preserve the freshness and purity of the fruit. Ageing for up to 22 months takes place in 35%-new French oak barrels carefully selected for their fine grain and moderate toast, contributing to the wine's complexity, adding subtle layers of spice, vanilla and toast to the rich fruit core. Château Rocheyron features notes of ripe blackberry, plum and cassis, accented by hints of liquorice, mocha and earthy undertones in a complex palate with well-integrated tannins. This Grand Vin has remarkable capacity for ageing.
