Château La Fleur Morange is a celebrated estate in Saint-Émilion famed for being one of the appellation’s original late 1990s "garagiste" wineries. Founded by Jean-François Julien and wife Véronique, the estate has quickly distinguished itself through its singular focus on producing wines that encapsulate the essence of its unique, small vineyard. In the 2012 classification of the appellation, Château La Fleur Morange was promoted to Grand Cru Classé status. The property’s three-and-a-half-hectare vineyard is planted predominantly to Merlot alongside about a quarter Cabernet Franc. Despite its location on the southeastern, lower-grade edge of the appellation, the soil composition is iron-rich clay-limestone, resulting in critically acclaimed wines. The Juliens’ passion for winemaking and dedication to quality have propelled La Fleur Morange to the forefront of innovation in Bordeaux, earning acclaim for its deep, complex, and expressive wines.

La Fleur Morange is celebrated for its artisanal approach to winemaking. The estate’s Grand Vin, Château La Fleur Morange, showcases the exceptional qualities of its old-vine Merlot and Cabernet Franc in a rich, opulent, and full-bodied wine that maintains a delicate balance between power and elegance. The inaugural vintage of Château La Fleur Morange was produced in 1999 in limited quantities. Renowned US wine critic, Robert Parker gave a 93-point score to the following year’s vintage which propelled the estate to fame and helped it develop a cult following. Understanding Chateau La Fleur Morange Grand Cru Classe, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, Bordeaux
The estate adheres to sustainable farming methods, treating the vineyard with the utmost respect to preserve the health of the land and the quality of the grapes. In the cellar, a combination of modern techniques and time-honoured traditions, such as hand-picking and manual sorting of berries. Grapes are destemmed to promote flavour and structure balance. Fermentation takes place in conical vats for rounded integration of components. The wine is then gravity-fed, to preserve purity, into the barrel for ageing in new French oak, typically for 24 months. This first wine displays ripe dark fruit, spice and subtle oak nuances in a palate that is both robust and refined, with silky tannins and a lingering finish. This wine has excellent cellaring potential.
